The network flew the drugs over by helicopter from Morocco to Casabermeja.
The Civil Guard have released news of a months-long joint operation with National Police which has taken 17 people into custody and seized cannabis worth more than 3 million €. Another four people face charges in the case.
The organisation smuggled the drugs into Málaga from Morocco by helicopter, using the cover of aerial photography to obtain permission to fly in Moroccan air space. The
deliveries were unloaded in an isolated mountainous area near the village of Casabermeja. The network used speedboats to carry the drugs over the sea on other occasions.
An international transport company then carried the cannabis to other parts of Spain and abroad, hiding it amongst legitimate loads. It’s described as a highly-organised operation, where each section of the organisation had its own role to perform.
Officers recovered almost three tons of cannabis, nine vehicles, and 20,000 € in cash and are investigating possible links outside Spain.
