Judge Des Marrian sentenced Porter to nine months in prison suspended for two years.

Miller was given probation for a period of two years.

The court was told that when police raided a house where both men were tenants they found two immature cannabis plants.

They also found a cupboard that was being converted into a cultivation centre.

At interview both admitted their involvement and Porter accepted that he was going to sell the cannabis to his friends.

The judge said the case was not the usual type of cultivation case he normally dealt with.

He asked where people could buy cannabis seeds and when told they were sold legally he questioned the point in allowing people to buy things that could only be used for an illegal purpose.

He said he was astonished someone could buy seeds and ten to 15 weeks later they would have a plant that would sell for £250.

He said it was a disturbing case and congratulated the police for nipping the operation in the bud.
