Sunflower Fest 2010 – A brand new event on Northern Ireland’s festival and gig calendar – a fantastic weekend of live music, arts and great food in a welcoming (and family-friendly) atmosphere, which we are sure will match that of any other festival this summer. Plus, it’s for an amazing cause – all profits will go to rebuilding Haiti after the devastating earthquake.
Set in beautiful rustic countryside a mere 3 miles from Lisburn City Centre and 10 miles from Belfast, “Tubby’s Farm”, just outside Hillsborough, is the perfect setting for this new festival. A real, working farm which produces fine jam, and of course Sunflowers – hence the name! Tubby’s Farm is at 31 Cabra Road, Legacurry, Hillsborough, BT26 6NB.
Held over three-days, from Fri-Sun 20-22nd August, our goal is to do the right thing: that is, to create a reasonably priced summer festival, providing an overwhelmingly positive, comfortable and fun experience for both attendees and musicians. Showcasing some of Northern Ireland’s finest bands and artists, as well as some guests from the UK and the Republic of Ireland, with two stages – one outdoors and the other indoors, you can expect to hear music of all styles and genres – the one common denominator being quality live performances.
Sunflower Fest also celebrates the best in organic food and drink. Expect some delicious, home grown, locally made produce to delight your taste buds and wash it all down with a drink from the Bar Burgundy Beverage Bothy!
We pride ourselves in being a community festival, organised by a diverse group of local people. We are emphasising the importance of living local – buying local, supporting local artists, musicians and businesses. We would like to encourage as many people as possible to arrive by pedal power so dig out the bike and leave the car at home! (although car parking will be provided, at the very reasonable price of £2 per car!) Camping will also be available, at £5 per person on arrival.
The live music line-up is being overseen by local promoters SO:NI (Sounds of N.I), who have been running successful showcase gigs in Belfast and Lisburn for many years. Some of the prospective highlights include the genre-defying artistry of such acts as Mojo Fury, Rams’ Pocket Radio, Silhouette, Clown Parlour, Uber Gliteratti and Phoenix Fire. Legendary Belfast rock acts Ashanti (recently reformed) and Sweet Savage will play special sets, with the likes of Swanee River, Pay*ola, Nasa Assassin, Bandwagon and Indigo Fury also pleasing classic rock fans. Some superb acoustic acts will also be showcased, including Naoimh O’Hagan, Aaron Shanley and Malaika. The sheer variety (and talent) of artists involved is quite remarkable. More line-up details are below, with many more to be added over the coming weeks. The centre of operations on-line is the Facebook Page – search Sunflower Fest and join them on there!
Tickets for the festival can be purchased from Ticketmaster.co.uk – with single day tickets and full weekend tickets being available, and also discounted family tickets.
