Dr. Phil Leveque, Salem-News.com writer and also one of the most noted and educated physician/pharmacologist/forensic toxicologists in the world today, will speak at the University of Central Florida this week about medical marijuana, a subject drawing increasing attention from one side of the U.S. to the other.
During Dr. Leveque’s talk on Wednesday, 100-200 people from a Florida Chapter of NORML are expected to attend.
When asked what they have to look forward to, he said he will speak to those in attendance about the various benefits of medical marijuana, something few doctors have more experience with.
Dr. Leveque’s presentation will include a slideshow with figures from Storm Crow and the late Dr. Tod Mikuriya, a good friend of Leveque’s, whose research is highly credited for the rapid advancements that medical cannabis has seen in recent years, particularly in California where Dr. Mikuriya was based.
He said this special presentation, “Will explain that medical marijuana is almost a first choice drug for a whole bunch of diseases.”
Over the years, Dr. Phil Leveque has spoken to audiences at Portland State University, Mount Hood Community College, Clackamas Community College, University of Washington School of Medicine, and several other campuses.
He has been interviewed by Anderson Cooper, the LA Times Seattle Times, major papers in Vancouver, The New York Times, Washington Post, and major newspapers in Rome, Berlin, Norway, Russia and Japan.
Dr. Leveque will explain how he came to practice medicine, discussing several ways he was able to help people in his career.
He will share his knowledge of marijuana and the way it alleviates certain symptoms, and he will elaborate on how marijuana helps patients suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
He will also take questions regarding the interest in the prevalence of medical marijuana in ADD/ADHD and Autism, while discussing what some of the obstacles are that patients have had to overcome to obtain a medical marijuana permit in Oregon.
