A FATHER-OF-THREE, charged in relation to a million-euro cannabis haul in Balbriggan last week, has claimed he was ‘forced’ to transport the drugs and feared for his family. David McMahon, Lagmore Meadows, Belfast, appeared before Judge Brian Joseph Sheridan at Swords District Court last Wednesday, following a garda operation two days earlier.
The 45-year-old lorry driver was charged with the unlawful possession of cannabis resin on Monday, January 18th, on the M1 at Gormanston Demense, Balbriggan. He was further charged with the possession of cannabis for unlawful sale of supply on the same date and location. The court heard McMahon had been arrested on the M1 and brought to Balbriggan Garda Station, where he was eventually charged at 8.15pm on January 19th. The defendant had made no reply to first charge, but replied ‘I was forced to do it and I still fear for my family’, after the second charge.
