The story of the Cheesecake Lady reads like a home-grown Horatio Alger tale — one featuring considerable amounts of ganja.
The Cheesecake Lady, aka Jessica LeRoux, has long been legendary in the local pre-concert tailgating scene for strolling through parking lots with her crazy hat and wavy hair and offering up heavenly treats at unbeatable prices.
Now LeRoux, one of the state’s first marijuana caregivers, is using the booming medical marijuana scene to go mainstream — and she’s making a splash. Her commercial kitchen currently bakes up sixteen types of cannabis-infused cheesecakes and chocolates, recipes she’s been perfecting for seventeen years, all of which she sells at dispensaries around the state under the name “Twirling Hippy Confections, LLC.” For the holidays she’s added special varieties like pumpkin walnut and cranberry pecan cheesecakes, and she hopes to expand to frozen, ready-to-eat dinners.
On her path to success, the Cheesecake Lady hasn’t forgotten the little guy. That’s why she’s raising money for down-and-out patients by way of her second “Semi-Occasional Cheesecake Charity Ball and Holiday Hash Bash” at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom, 2637 Welton Street, this Sunday from 4 to 11 p.m.
The party, which includes a hash competition, music from the likes of Lion Vibes and Mountain Standard Time and dispensary information tables, is open to anyone eighteen and older who forks over a $20 donation, though patients with a medical marijuana get a discount, plus access to a medication area.
So why not join in the fun — and pay tribute to Colorado’s first lady of weed.
