A British backpacker jailed for 10 years in India on drugs charges following a “grossly unfair” trial lost his appeal yesterday.
Patrick Malluzzo from Dartford, Kent, was convicted of possessing cannabis following a trial conducted in Hindi in 2006.
After waiting four years for his appeal to be heard, the 32-year-old’s conviction was upheld by the High Court of Rajasthan.
A Fair Trials International spokesman said: “Patrick has been through a horrendous ordeal since his arrest in 2004 and was convicted after a grossly unfair trial.”
