A WINCHESTER man found with cannabis has avoided jail for breaking a suspended sentence.

yellow lebanese cannabis resin hashishMichael Castle, 21, was arrested by police when they found a tin containing cannabis resin.

Winchester Crown Court heard that Castle, unemployed, of Stanmore Lane, Stanmore, had in January been given a six-month sentence for burglary suspended for a year.

That made him liable to go to jail for breaking the suspended sentence.

But Judge Jeremy Burford QC said the quantities of cannabis, for personal use, were too small to trigger the jail term.

Instead he made a 12-month community order, with a six-month drugs rehabilitation requirement.
