Dramatic rise in drug offences
There has been a dramatic rise in the number of people caught using and supplying drugs.
According to the latest CSO crime figures, more than 5,000 people have been caught in possession of cocaine, cannabis, heroin or ecstasy for personal use in the past three months.
The number of drug dealers detected has increased by more than 23%, and drug driving offences have more than doubled.
The figures also show a drop in all categories of homicide with the number of murders halved.
The incidence of rape has increased by 13% but overall sexual offences dropped by 10%.
There were increases across all forms of robbery, including bank and cash in transit robberies - hijacking was up by 72%
Weapons and explosive offences have also increased by 6%, reflecting the increasing number of pipe bombs and grenades discovered, and while the number of shootings decreased, the number of people caught with guns increased.
Fireworks offences are also up nearly fourfold from 59 to 254 in last three months.
